Modeling diffusion of innovations in a social network.
A simple model of diffusion of innovations in a social network with upgrading costs is introduced. Agents are characterized by a single real variable, their technological level. According to local information, agents decide whether to upgrade their level or not, balancing their possible benefit with the upgrading cost. A critical point where technological avalanches display a power-law behavior...
متن کاملProperty Rights Protection of Biotechnology Innovations
Protection of intellectual property embedded in potentially reproducible living organisms presents some unique and difficult challenges. Biological innovations like genetically modified (GM) seed are self-replicating, and as a result, represent a form of durable good with a potential product life extending far into the future. This gives rise to two problems: the need for copy protection of int...
متن کاملModeling diffusion of innovations with probabilistic cellular automata
We present a family of one-dimensional cellular automata modeling the diffusion of an innovation in a population. Starting from simple deterministic rules, we construct models parameterized by the interaction range and exhibiting a second-order phase transition. We show that the number of individuals who eventually keep adopting the innovation strongly depends on connectivity between individuals.
متن کاملDiffusion of Innovations in Organisations
During the past two decades, the world has witnessed a significant change in the nature of the technological and administrative practices and processes faced by organisations in different areas of their operations, such as manufacturing processes, operation technologies, and information systems (Shields, 1997). To keep pace with other competitors in the global market, organisations are keen to ...
متن کاملDiffusion of Competing Innovations
Medical innovations, in the form of new medication or other clinical practices, evolve and spread through health care systems, impacting on the quality and standards of health care provision, which is demonstrably heterogeneous by geography. Our aim is to investigate the potential for the diffusion of innovation to influence health inequality and overall levels of recommended care. We extend ex...
